What happened to me, when did I suddenly grow up and become a complaining adult?

Snow-on-grasses
I swear there was a frost this morning in Adelaide. I live by the coast and we supposedly live frost free.

Except for this morning. Two heat packs later and an extra duvet and I seemed to still have a bad case of frost bite especially around the peripherals....my nose and ears!

Hence I decided to post these most beautiful snowy, frosty pics from New Zealand.

As a child, walking to school on a NZ winters morning we always loved the frost and ice. Throwing stones on ice puddles, picking up shards of broken ice and tasting it regardless of the fact that it may have been a muddy puddle. Picking up sticks to poke the frosty leaves simply to listen to the soft crunching sound it made. The feel of the cold around ones face was a pleasant sensation and the animals all huddled with steam rising from their mouths, all made for the joy of a winters morning.

What happened to me, when did I suddenly become all "growed up" like an adult???

Now it seems one bit of cold and I'm complaining ever so vigorously.

CHILD: Listen to the birds singing in the cold...........................ADULT: That noise woke me up.
CHILD: My face feels alive.........................................................ADULT:  My cheeks have frost bite.
CHILD: My nose is tingling........................................................ADULT: My nose is running and I need another handkerchief.
CHILD: My teeth chatter like a goblins......................................ADULT: My jaw is aching I have arthritis
CHILD: My fingers touch the ice pond.... .................................ADULT: My fingers have turned blue and grrr I left my gloves at home.
CHILD: I just love running and skipping in the frosty fields.......ADULT: I can't wait to get back inside to a heater.

To remain childlike in ones appreciation of life and living would indeed be a total privilege.

I am glad I wrote this blog, it is a reminder of how I was as a child and how life was a total buzz from sunup till sundown. How enjoyment was so simple and easy to obtain.

Frost all sharp and it bites!
Glorious and cold
Protection against the cold
Twinkling
Catch the light
On a cold and frosty morn
In the stillness the ground became hard
Frozen in time
The mountain slopes
Cold
Winter white
Leafy frost
The colours of winter
Across the lake
Solitude on the edge
Peace
Happy to be alive.
Only the hardy survive
